The UK Plastic Packaging Tax

It is for this reason that most of our products already contain a minimum of 30% recycled plastic, being PPT compliant.
We also make Plastic Tax Compliant products from 100% recycled content.
What is the UK Plastic Packaging Tax?
PPT was introduced on April 2022, all plastic packaging produced in or imported into the UK which contains less than 30% recycled plastic is taxed at a rate of £200 per tonne.
Why is it needed?
The goal of the UK Plastic Packaging tax is to provide an economic incentive for business to use more recycled plastics in the manufacturing of packaging. As a result, recycling and collection levels of plastic waste will increase, helping to prevent this valuable material resource ending up in landfills or being incinerated.
Who is liable?
UK manufacturers, importers, business customers of manufacturers and importers of plastic packaging and consumers who buy goods in plastic packaging in the UK.
This measure is not expected to impact consumers as plastic packaging usually constitutes a very small amount of the total cost of goods.

What is the latest?
Once liable companies have met the 10-tonne threshold and completed their registration, a return needs to be submitted to HMRC four times a year.
